Drayage is a short-distance trucking service that moves a loaded container between a port, rail yard, and a nearby facility.
When is drayage used?
It usually comes up when cargo is transferring between ocean/rail and local trucking. You use it to cover the “in-between” miles that ships and trains can’t do. It’s especially common for imports headed to a warehouse, and exports that need to get from a staging location to the terminal.
This service is not a substitute for long-haul trucking. If your destination is hours away, you’ll still need a separate over-the-road move after the container reaches the local yard. Before you book, confirm basics like the container number, pickup location, required appointment window, and where the empty unit should be returned after unloading. Costs can also change fast when terminals are busy or drivers spend extra time waiting.
Drayage and Transportify
Transportify helps you line up the right truck for short port-area moves with clear pickup and drop-off coordination. You can book on-demand for urgent runs or schedule ahead for planned arrivals, then share simple instructions with your team so everyone knows the timing and handoff point. If you’re moving imported or exported goods and need a quick transfer to a nearby warehouse or distribution spot, Transportify’s flexible booking options can support that workflow.
